Nutritional Cleansing increases the health benefits you’ll receive from the ancient health practice of cleansing. The herbs, vitamins and minerals that aid cleansing do two things:
• Accelerate the removal of impurities from the body.
• Nourish the body with vital nutrients to rapidly revive health.
A cleansed and revitalized body is stronger; resists illness better, is more efficient and performs at a higher level than one that is filled with impurities. Many people notice an ability to reach and maintain their ideal weight. |

This month we’ll focus on pillars #1, #2 & #5: Stop Dieting, Eat and Drink only those things that are healthy for your body and Cleanse
Did you know that a breakthrough study by Dr. P. Webb, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, revealed that calorie intake alone was not sufficient to predict weight loss? Research findings published by Leibel, Rosenbaum, and Hirsch showed that the reason these diets do not lead to permanent weight loss is because the body adjusts its energy requirements as it loses weight.
The secret is in your metabolism or how your body converts food into energy or fat. Metabolism is dependent upon the amount of muscle you have and the balance of your hormones. The more muscle mass that you have, the greater chance you have of increasing your metabolism.
Your ability to gain or lose weight, and to have energy or be fatigued, is also dependent on the hormones secreted by your pancreas, adrenal glands and thyroid gland. Thyroid hormones speed up or slow down the conversion of sugar to energy in order to keep your body temperature at 98.6 degrees. People with slow thyroids have trouble losing weight, get cold easily, and feel tired. Thyroid problems may not always show up in blood test.
Insulin and glucagon are hormones that also affect weight loss. A minor elevation in the level of insulin in the blood will block glucagon from breaking down fat. Diets won’t work if fat can’t break down due to elevated insulin levels.
The adrenal glands release hormones that also affect weight loss. The adrenal glands can be checked and rebalanced through supplements and dietary changes.
Ideally, you should eat many small meals a day made up of foods that will nourish your body and help maintain and control your insulin and glucagon levels, which will stabilize blood sugar.
You can control insulin levels by eating lean proteins and complex carbohydrates such as whole grains, vegetables, and good fats. A higher protein meal decreases insulin and increases glucagon levels, thus reducing stored fat and helping with weight loss.
Adjust your diet to eliminate white flour, white rice, and white sugar. They are highly processed and contain no vitamins or minerals. Brown rice and whole wheat contain the natural vitamins and minerals found in nature.
You should also avoid bad fats, but not all fats. Avoid trans-fatty acids, hydrogenated and oxidized fats found in deep fried food, half-and-half, imitation mayonnaise, imitation sour cream, shortening, margarine, and non-dairy creamers. Remember, processed foods and fast foods use hydrogenated oils.
Drink spring water. The recommended amount of water that you should consume in a day can be determined by taking your weight and dividing it in half. This is the number of ounces of water that you should be drinking on a daily basis.

Winter is here and snow removal is a major problem for many people. The following tips are offered for shoveling driveways and walks:
DO'S
• Stretch your back, neck, arms and legs with a brief warm-up.
• Use a shovel appropriate in length and weight to your height and strength.
• Bend from the knees while lifting and keep the spine as straight as possible.
• Push the snow when it is practical, as opposed to lifting and throwing it.
• Deposit the snow close to where you are shoveling, to avoid heaving it across a wide area.
DON'TS
• Shovel at too rapid a pace. Work at a pace fitting to your age and strength.
• Lift snow with your back. Bending and twisting the spine are common causes of disc and ligament damage. Use your arms and body to deposit snow in one smooth motion.
• Shovel with your feet planted firmly in one spot. Allow your legs and thighs to help your upper body and arms deposit the snow to the side.
• Lift large amounts of snow in one scoop of the shovel. To avoid back strain, shovel light to moderate amounts of snow per load.
• Overwork yourself. If you are huffing and puffing, stop immediately and rest.
"The relationship between snow shoveling and major injuries, including back, cardiovascular and Musculoskeletal problems, is no coincidence," says William Bender, DC, president of the Michigan Chiropractic Council. "A number of injuries, even deaths, could be averted each year if people followed these simple tips while shoveling.
1999 Claudia Daude, DC
It's always wise to have a Doctor of Chiropractic examine your spine to make sure that it is up to all strenuous physical activities, especially the rigors of snow shoveling.
